The most accurate simulation racing game ever made.

Simraceway - the game

Building Simraceway into a top competitive motosport racing game was a fun and rewarding challenge. In 2009 we aimed to immerse gamers into skill-matched races where they can compete for a chance to race the vehicles in real-life at the Sonoma Infineon Raceway. We worked on bringing the most hyper-accurate details in game using 3D scanning technology that was emerging at the time. Partnerships with the biggest vehicle manufactureres enabled us to have some of the most brilliant exotic cars and race livery out there.

My role entailed leading the creative of the HUD for in-game, game menus, liveries for vehicle skins, iconography and design system. One of my favorite parts of the game was the HUD, as it has to allow you to focus on the game but because there's so many specifics with motorsport, you need to be able to see tire pressure, telemetry data, track information and lap times at a glance. Talking to professional drivers and gamers alike to see what their visual needs are and what queues are needed at the right time, was so helpful to iterate on the designs.

Leading the creative of Simraceway, I was responsible for the game aesthetic, menus, HUD for the cockpit, music and all design elements within, including how the vehicle skins showed up in-game. Designing this steering wheel was a whole new hardware challenge. At the time, most at-home driving setups attached to your desk and used pedals on the floor to brake and accelerate. We believed if we could make competitive racing more accessible to the average gamer, we could have more. I worked on the layout designs designs, the controller overlay and packaging.
